Does an external hard disk get damaged when it is kept connected to a PC all the time?
When I shut down (turn off) my PC, will it damage my external hard disk and consequently erase data if I keep it connected via the USB port?
No the main concern is if the External HDD has it's own power cord or not. You need to be aware that in the incident of a power surge and External HDD not connected to a power strip could potentially get fried.
There is no issue with turning off your computer with a external hard drive still on or anything like that.
