How does a long coat malamute do in hot weather?
No i do not have a malamute, i was just wondering. So does a long malamute coat protect it from heat and cold?
Yes. Coats protect dogs from the cold and from heat. I have Sibes in Fl and they do fine. Granted you shouldn't really walk them at noon when the sun is glaring down on you and it's about 95 degrees... But they can adapt well to warm climates. The thinking that you should shave them is ludicrous. They need more frequent water breaks then shorted coated breeds. But as long as there are shady areas to escape from the heat, there's nothing wrong with northern dogs in warmer climates. Obviously, they'd prefer to be in cold :] Mine go crazy when it dips down to 50.
